Beat the "winter blues"
Morena
As we approach the shortest day it's a great opportunity to reflect on how we might beat the upcoming "winter blues". We have continued to be busy out in the fields tilling and weeding. It is amazing how the grass continues to grow; even through the early periods of winter.
Our image is from December last year, about six months away, but still providing certainty about opportunities to come.
We thought it appropriate, given the recent Platinum Jubilee, to reflect on some links between the Royal family and lavender.
Queen Victoria was a great enthusiast in the use of lavender. She insisted that her furniture and floors be cleaned with lavender to freshen up the rooms in her castle.
Queen Elizabeth I of England enjoyed drinking lavender tea as a way to relieve her migraines and other maladies. She was so precious about purple she stopped everyone but close family members from wearing it through a Sumptuary Laws Royal Order.
The current Queen's favourite flower is thought to be Lily of the Valley but her fondness for the colour purple is well known.Great to see the royal connection with lavender.
